Electrathon Objective
The objective of the Electrathon contest is to travel as far as possible in one-hour (two hours for 2008) in a single-seater vehicle using only the energy available from approximately 30.4 kilograms (67 pounds) of lead-acid batteries.
(possible changes may include unlimited time, or 2 hour limit - new course)
Electrathon Vehicles
The vehicles must comply with a set of rules (e.g. 3 or more wheels, safety devices). Creativity in the design and construction of the vehicles is encouraged. The Electrathon cars are much like the solar cars that take part of international competitions, except that they do not have the (expensive) solar panels, allowing them to be constructed on limited budgets. Like larger on-road electric cars, the Electrathon cars produce no air pollution in operation, and can be virtually silent.
Electrathon Competition Classes
This year's competition is open to two classes of vehicles. The High School Electrathon class and the Electrathon Open Class. Both types of vehicles must be constructed according to the same guidelines and rules presented within this site. The only difference is that the High School Class is oriented to High School students and teams only while the Open class is open to all competitors.
High School Class
- High school owned vehicles or vehicles owned by high school age students with instructor supervision of student driver(s) and crew.
- Maximim battery weight (sealed batteries only) - 67lbs.
- Minimum driver weight (plus ballast) - 180lbs.
Open Class
- Vehicle owners and drivers may be any individual, group or school.
- Maximim battery weight (sealed batteries only) - 67lbs.
- Minimum driver weight (plus ballast) - 180lbs.
