How can an EV travel 100 miles for $1?

A reader asks Treehugger this question:

Dear Pablo: I have read time and again that an all-electric vehicle can use as little as one dollar's worth of electricity to travel 100 miles. How can this be? Electric Power Plants are burning oil to create electricity, and oil is expensive. How do Power Plants convert oil to electricity at a rate that is five times more efficient than a 2010 Prius?

EVCO "EV Expo" Saturday, May 23rd being held at the Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa

OTTAWA and GATINEAU, QC, May 14 /CNW Telbec/ - The Electric Vehicle Council of Ottawa - EVCO, an Association open to all persons interested in electric vehicles, will be holding an electric vehicle display event, "EV Expo" at the Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa on Saturday, May 23rd.
The event will run on Saturday from 10 AM through 4 PM, rain or shine. Come and see all kinds of electric vehicles and meet with persons who know about and are interested in electric vehicles. Find out about attending EVCO monthly meetings, held on the last Monday
